Once again this year, Skills Ontario received over 250 entries for its Pin and Medal Design contest.
The Competitions Department said the number of this year’s submissions posed a challenge for short-listing candidates. “This year we saw more high school submissions for both the Pin & Medal design than ever before! The range in concepts were outstanding – many involving gears, tools and electrical circuits and the always popular trillium flower for Ontario and maple leaf,” said Natasha Oliver, Competitions Coordinator. “Designs that included a strong concept with simple and well placed text really stood out.”
Submissions poured in from across the province, and included work from both secondary and post-secondary students, which would not have been possible without the ongoing support of educators. “Big thanks to all teachers who brought this contest to their classroom and encouraged participation!” Natasha said.
After thorough deliberation, we are pleased to announce the 2017-18 Pin and Medal Design winners: Congratulations Jessica Simchison and Vianca Santos!
Jessica Simchison, a 2nd year Graphic Design student from Mohawk College, advised by Mitch Thompson, is the 2017-2018 Pin Design Contest winner. Congratulations, Jessica!
Vianca Santos, a grade 11 student from St. Patrick Catholic Secondary School, submitted her design entry as part of a Communication Technology class, under the advisement of Ms. Chiarot. Vianca is the 2017-2018 Medal Design Contest winner. Congratulations, Vianca!
We look forward to sharing these designs with participants and medallists at the Skills Ontario Competition this May 7-9, 2018!
