Georgian College is accelerating student learning, careers and futures. We’re producing a new kind of graduate – leaders who can turn ideas into businesses, innovations into careers, and challenges into opportunities. Through extraordinary student work experience and cutting-edge curriculum, we’re preparing these graduates to meet the needs of employers today, while anticipating the jobs of tomorrow – jobs they may create.
Taught by industry-experienced and expert faculty, we offer more than 125 full-time career-focused programs across seven locations in central Ontario – Barrie, Midland, Muskoka (Bracebridge), Orangeville, Orillia, Owen Sound and South Georgian Bay (Collingwood). Each of our programs – including apprenticeship and technical trade options, certificates, diplomas, degrees, graduate certificates and combined diploma-degrees – is designed in partnership with community and industry leaders and has an increasingly vital entrepreneurial edge.
Our new three-storey Advanced Technology, Innovation and Research Centre at the Barrie Campus will open in fall 2018. It will give our students and the entire region a competitive advantage when it comes to diversifying the economy and creating new opportunities for the future.
We know there are lots of exciting opportunities in the skilled trades, and Georgian is proud to partner with Skills Ontario in helping to prepare our young people for the highly skilled economy of tomorrow. The trades are a valuable educational pathway as they impact virtually everything in our day-to-day lives.
We recognize there is a shortage of skilled trades workers in Canada and the wonderful work done through Skills Ontario, such as their annual skills competitions, showcase the individual talent of students interested in the trades and promote them as a viable career option.
Georgian offers a wide range of program in the skilled trades from certificates in Cabinetmaking Techniques and Gas Technician to diplomas in Mechanical Technician – Precision Skills. Our Midland Campus is also home to Georgian’s Skilled Trades Centre, featuring 39,000 square feet of dedicated shop space. With the latest equipment and courses, the centre offers exceptional hands-on training.
Technology plays a critical role in driving innovation, creating jobs and strengthening our economy. Georgian continues to lead the way, ensuring we have a skilled workforce and exceptional talent pool for employers. In September 2017 we are launching Simcoe County’s first electrical engineering degree, offered in partnership with Lakehead University.
Georgian is proud to be a student work experience trailblazer in co-op education. We partner with 6,200 employers and all our programs emphasize hands-on learning. We are number one in graduate employment among all 22 English-language Ontario colleges, with 87.8 per cent of our graduates finding work within six months of graduation (2015-16 Key Performance Indicators).
We would be pleased to show you more at our Open House events on Saturday, April 8 and Saturday November 4.
