Students across the province vie to qualify for the OTSC

Apr 13 2016

Ontario, April 13, 2016 – The Ontario Technological Skills Competition (OTSC) held at RIM Park in Waterloo is just over two weeks away. Featuring 67 skilled trades and technologies contests, and over 2,000 competitors from high schools and colleges across Ontario, it is the largest skilled trades and technology competition in Canada.

Due to the popularity of some contests at the OTSC, Skills Ontario holds qualifying competitions to ensure that the most prepared and talented students ultimately compete at the OTSC.  Secondary level competitors in the following contests must first compete at a qualifying competition: 2D Character Animation, Carpentry Individual, Culinary Arts, Small Powered Equipment, TV & Video Production, and Welding.

The top three school boards in each contest from each location are eligible to advance to the OTSC, taking place May 2-4, 2016 in Waterloo, then have the opportunity to advance to the National Competition. There’s no better way for a young person to start their career than by informing future employers that they are a gold, silver, or bronze medalist in their field.

The qualifying competitions run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the following locations:

Cambrian College, Sudbury

Canadore College, North Bay

Confederation College, Thunder Bay

Fanshawe College, London

Georgian College, Barrie and Midland campuses

Humber College, North Campus, Toronto

Niagara College, Welland and Niagara-on-the-lake campuses

St. Lawrence College, Kingston
