International Day of the Girl celebrates the strength, achievements, and potential of girls while raising awareness of the challenges they continue to face worldwide. 

Since 2021, Skills Ontario has marked this important occasion by inspiring girls ages 10 to 13 across Ontario to build their skills, challenge expectations, and explore the many pathways available to them. 

Join us every October for the Skills Ontario International Day of the Girl Celebration Event! Whether attending in person or virtually, participants will engage with inspiring speakers, discover exciting career opportunities, and take part in interactive experiences designed to help them dream big and build confidence in their future.

We are pleased to offer this virtual series dedicated to sitting down with passionate tradeswomen to learn about their journey in the industry. During this one-on-one sit down, we will:

• Introduce young women to a select skilled trade and/or technology career;
• Discuss why we should encourage young women to consider a career in the skilled trades;
• Discuss how to be an advocate and ally for young women in the skilled trades.

Enhance student engagement with our new companion worksheet, created to support active learning, meaningful discussion, and personal reflection. 

Designed to complement Skills Ontario’s “A Sit Down With…” video series, the worksheet encourages students to: 

• Discover a variety of career journeys and experiences 

• Recognize transferable skills that can be applied across multiple career paths 

• Challenge stereotypes and assumptions about careers and the skilled trades 

• Make connections between guest experiences and their own future aspirations 

By encouraging students to watch, think, share, and build, the series helps foster a deeper understanding of career opportunities and the skills needed to thrive in today’s workforce.
